Chinatown is not only a geographical landscape but also an ideology, existing in where Chinese individuals assemble. While Chinese has become the largest ethnic group among worldwide international students, contradictions are shown in their dual identities: they are both the majority and minority, just like they can be both open and resistant to “foreign” culture.

The ongoing project documents Chinese oversea students’ life at weekends, who are studying in different courses and universities around Britain. For them, bedrooms are functioning as a secondary homeland to bring sense of security, a sanctuary to fight against cultural shock.
